Best Enjoyed

The citrus notes make English Earl Grey heavenly in its natural state. For a stronger citrus zing, add a squeeze of lemon or a touch of your favourite sweetener. If smooth creaminess is what you crave, swap the lemon for a dash of milk. To create the popular ‘London Fog’ iced tea, add vanilla syrup to your Earl Grey, top it up with milk, and serve it over ice.

Best Served

In the teacups that always bring a smile to your face. If there are guests to impress, then fine china will transform tea time into a truly regal English experience. In winter, a tea cosy is essential, as are mugs you can wrap your hands around.

Pairs With

Sip English Earl Grey tea as a delicacy on its own or pair it with some decadent British treats. Scones, jam, and cream are as British as you can get. Cake lovers will be delighted with Victorian sponge cake, lemon drizzle cake, or the ever-popular chocolate cake. Pastries like banoffee pie and Bakewell tarts are also popular tea pairings in the UK. If you’re partial to a full afternoon tea (‘high tea’ outside of the UK), prepare a selection of sweet treats and finger sandwiches. If you wish to keep things simple, there’s little more British than a bickie dipped in tea!

Tea Time

As the world’s most tea-obsessed nation, all times are tea time in England. However, English Earl Grey is ideal for afternoons when you need a gentle lift. Just keep an eye on the clock as evening indulgences are only for those seeking a late-night buzz.

Brewing Guide

    1 tsp per cup

  • TEMP

    100°C (210°F)

  • TIME

    3 – 5 min

Add 1 tsp of tea to a teapot. Pour in 200 ml of water boiled to 100°C. Steep for 3 – 5 min. Strain into cup. Sweeten to taste.

Brew it the traditional English way

Boil freshly drawn ambient water in a teakettle to 100°C;. Warm a ceramic teapot by rinsing with the hot water. Add 1 tsp of tea per cup to the teapot and 1 for the pot. Pour in the hot water. Stir and steep covered for 3 – 5 min. Strain into cup. Sweeten to taste. Best served in your finest china with milk or a slice of lemon and sugar on the side. Finesse your English tea-drinking etiquette with these handy tips; stir your tea by placing the spoon in a 6 o'clock position in your cup, then back towards 12 o'clock while not clinking against the sides. Place your teaspoon on the saucer with the handle pointing in the same direction as the cup handle. Hold the cup handle with your thumb and forefinger. No pinkies up! Never allow your cup to travel more than 30 cm from your saucer. As for milk in first or last, you choose your side in the debate! Sip with poise and enjoy on its own or with cucumber sandwiches, scones and cake.
