Best Enjoyed
The same way you’d enjoy a homemade apple pie – hot and fresh from the stove! This tea is naturally sweet, so give it a taste test before adding any sweetener. Elma Chai can also be transformed into a thirst-quenching iced tea. Strain it into a glass jug or pitcher, then garnish with apple slices and a few sprigs of fresh mint for an extra refreshing kick! A splash of lemon juice will add some zest. To create a true apple pie experience, allow some of the fruit pieces to flow into each cup as you serve. The apple will plump up in the brew, adding an extra dimension of decadence to the experience.
Best Served
In traditional Turkish tulip cups displayed on a beautiful tea tray. Of course, you should also feel free to use your favourite teacups. Whether you’re serving your Elma Chai hot or cold, it’s best to prepare a large batch so you can serve plenty of little refills (and be prepared for those guests who spontaneously pop in).
Pairs With
Its own sweet self! The natural fruitiness and comforting aroma of Turkish Apple tea make this rich, spiced delight a decadent treat all on its own.
Elevate It
This tea is truly delightful on its own – no other ingredient needed! The apple pieces are already perfectly blended with spices, so without adding anything else, you’ll be in for a sippable apple pie in a cup. If you're in the mood for some zesty tang, add a traditional slice of lemon to complement the apple flavour.
Tea Time
Turkish people enjoy a never-ending tea time, but apple tea is reserved for those moments when the craving for a fruity treat hits. Refreshing and free from caffeine, you can indulge in this Elma Chai morning, noon, and night.

How to Brew the Traditional Turkish Way
Tea Tools
All the specialised utensils you’ll need for the traditional brew:
-
Measure
You will need 1 tbsp of tea per cup (250 ml / 8.5 fl oz) of water. For best results, use freshly drawn ambient filtered water.
Add an extra ¼ cup (62.5 ml / 2 fl oz) of water per cup of tea to allow room for evaporation and the amount of water that will be absorbed by the apples during the brewing process.
Tip: Select your saucepan to fit the number of servings you wish to prepare. Making an accurate sizing choice will help you create the ideal tisane-to-water ratio while avoiding excessive evaporation.
-
Brew
Add the water to your saucepan, followed by the tea. If sweetening with sugar, add it now so it can simmer with the tea and unleash its hidden magic.
Note: Adding sugar at the start of the brew is your ticket to a truly enchanting cup. This simple step allows the sugar to play with the apple and aromatic spices, creating a harmonious blend infused with warmth and richness. Melded with sweetness in the brew, the spiced notes are more pronounced, balanced, and complex. It's a subtle magic that elevates every sip.
Cover and bring to a rolling boil on the stovetop. Reduce the heat and gently simmer for 3 – 5 min or until the liquor develops a rich golden colour.
-
Serve
Whether you will be sharing your tea with others or enjoying it solo, you can pour directly into the teacups or transfer the brew to a teapot first. Either way, strain it through a mesh strainer to prevent the apple pieces from flowing out. Squeeze the apples with the back of a spoon to ensure you get every flavourful drop. Hint: for a magical apple-pie-in-a-cup experience, pop the strainer aside and allow some apple pieces to flow into each cup. The dried apple pieces will be juicy and thick with tea, and each one is its own little treat.
As you pour, follow the cultural tradition by leaving some space at the top of each cup. This makes them easier to manoeuvre and is especially important with traditional tulip cups, allowing you to hold them without burning your fingers.
If you didn’t add sugar to the brew, you can add it now, allowing everyone to sweeten their tea to taste. This is also the right time to add honey or any alternative sweetener. Feel free to add a traditional touch of tanginess by popping a lemon slice in each cup.
Note for honey lovers: Let your tisane cool a little before drizzling in your favourite bee-made treat. Hot water can rob honey of its health benefits and unique flavour. However, honey dissolves beautifully in a slightly cooled brew and holds onto all its beneficial properties. So, for a nourishing tisane, let it cool for a moment before you bring honey into the mix.

Drink
If you are drinking from a tulip cup, hold it by the rim using your thumb and index finger so that you do not burn yourself. The genius of the tulip cup design is that it is shaped in the shape of a tulip, with an outward-curving mouth to protect the drinker’s hands from the heat.
Before taking your first sip, savour the aroma of the tea in the teacup to experience greater depths of flavour. The tea may be piping hot, so make your first sip small and take it slow, testing the temperature of the brew so that you don’t burn yourself. If you’re not in a rush, you can also let your brew cool for a while as you savour its comforting aroma, building up anticipation for that first satisfying sip.

Too toasty for hot tea? Beat the heat with a chilled tea treat!
How to Brew the Chilled-Out Way<
To enjoy this tea iced, simply follow the Quick Brew steps, adjusting the tisane-to-water ratio based on the volume of your cup and how strong you like your tea (see tip below). Strain the brew into your cup. For cool and refreshing apple pie vibes, allow some of the warm apple pieces to flow into the cups when pouring. These pieces are 100% real apple, and they'll maintain their deliciousness as they brew, making each one a delightful little treat. Add any sweetener you desire, then cool the brew uncovered to help it reach room temperature faster. Gather your favourite garnishes to give it an extra refreshing kick. If you need some inspiration, Turkish Apple is scrumptious with apple slices and fresh mint. You can even add some freshly squeezed lemon juice if you’re a fan of tea with a refreshing tang. Once you have your garnishes ready, serve the tea chilled over ice.
Want to make a big batch of tea to fill a glass jug or pitcher?
In this case, it’ll be easier to prepare a tea concentrate first. Follow the Quick Brew steps, adding the amount of tisane you’ll need for the total volume of your jug or pitcher. However, instead of adding the full amount of water, only add 500 ml (8.5 fl oz) per litre (34 fl oz) of iced tea you’re making. After straining the concentrate into your vessel and sweetening to taste, simply top it up with the remaining volume of ambient water. No need to cool your tea – the ambient water will naturally do the job for you! Add your favourite garnishes and serve chilled.
Tips
Hate the gritty aftertaste of poorly blended sweetener? Incorporating your sweetener while the brew is hot ensures it blends flawlessly, enriching your tea with a charming sweetness that harmonises perfectly and never overpowers the other flavours.
Ice is infamous for diluting drinks, but you can harness its power to water things down by brewing your tisane a little stronger than you otherwise would. To get it just right, try doubling the tisane quantity provided under Quick Brew. You many need to experiment a little to find your perfect balance.
Want to treat your tastebuds to a true iced tea adventure? Skip the Quick Brew and opt for a Traditional Brew instead. Just remember to double your tisane quantity for double the flavourful fun!
